Two groups that oppose a planned southern Indiana wood-burning power plant have asked state regulators to refuse to exercise jurisdiction over the project.
The Citizens Action Coalition of Indiana and Concerned Citizens of Scott County made the request in joint filing in Indianapolis with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
They say it would be benefit Indiana residents if the commission were to decline to exercise jurisdiction over the construction, operation or any other activity related to Liberty Green's proposed Scott County power plant.
The plant would burn woody material to generate 32 megawatts of power.
Liberty Green officials contend the plant will be environmentally benign, but the project's opponents say it will pose undue risks to public health and the environment.
The site of this proposed plant is just outside Scottsburg. If you drive down that way you can see numerous "No to biomass" signs dotting the yards and roads. So, the locals aren't real happy with the idea. Further investigation reveals that they already have a plant in the Milltown area. For more info on this type of project go the Liberty Green website here. Interesting info. Maybe worth considering, always two sides to every story.- SP
