From Cincinnati:
Tea Partiers aim to remake local GOP
True grassroots politics starts at the precinct level. If any of you out there have ever given consideration to a precinct post, now is the time to act. You must file for a precinct office and the filing period is still open. In Jackson County call:
GOP - Melissa Acton, Chairperson
Tom Goecker, Vice Chair
Dem - Not sure, but Jeanette Hackman was Chair.
Bottom line is: GET INVOLVED! We need REAL conservatives in BOTH parties!
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. Thomas Jefferson

Ann Coulter explains why the Dems are so "concerned" about Wall Street:
"For the past two decades, Democrats have specialized in insulating financial giants from the consequences of their own high-risk bets. Citigroup and Goldman Sachs alone have been rescued from their risky bets by unwitting taxpayers four times in the last 15 years."
"...whenever the Democrats "regulate" Wall Street, the innocent pay through the nose, while Wall Street swine lower than drug dealers and pornographers end up with multimillion-dollar bonuses so they can run for governor of New Jersey and fund lavish Democratic fundraisers in the Hamptons."
More background here: a book review of Peter Schweizer's book "Architects of Ruin: How Big Government Liberals Wrecked the Economy and How They Will Do It Again If No One Stops Them"
Some excerpts:
"Vernon Smith, a Nobel laureate in economics, says the federal government 'set the stage for housing bubbles by creating those implicitly taxpayer-backed agencies, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, a lenders of last resort.' In other words, far from being the results of runaaway capitalism, the housing bubble and the financial crisis that followed are the results of runaway government." (Page 119)
"The great irony is that those who unleashed this economic calamity appear to be the main beneficiaries of the crisis they helped to create. What's more, they are back in power today and are basicaly planning the next one." (page 166)
Now, from the Boston Globe, check this out: Frank leads push to disband mortgage corporations. Classic case of the "fox guarding the hen house".

The Disconnected President
From Dr. Zero at HotAir:
"Government is force, and the larger its programs become, the more it becomes fixated on compliance. The belief that we can let the government control some portions of our lives and industry, while the rest remain vibrant and creative, is a childish fantasy that should have died for good last night, before the spectacle of a man who doesn’t understand why his declared capitalist enemies aren’t producing enough jobs to boost his approval ratings. When he urged Americans to begin removing the obstacles to their success, he was too disconnected to understand that process already began in Massachusetts last week."

Obama Misleads on Integrating GOP Health Care Ideas

Try Googling It, Mr. President
John Stossel writes:
During the President's State of the Union, Obama laid down a challenge to opponents of his health care plan:
If anyone from either party has a better approach that will bring down premiums, bring down the deficit, cover the uninsured, strengthen Medicare for seniors, and stop insurance company abuses, let me know.
This is a tiring theme from the President: Pretend your opponents don't have their own ideas.
As Reason's Peter Suderman put it, "Here, Obama, Let Me Google Some Health-Care Reform Alternatives For You"

Tax-Tax-Tax, Spend-Spend-Spend...
Larry Kudlow on Obamanomics:
"And you know what? His teensy, tiny, temporary tax credits for small businesses are not real incentives. They are just a form of government spending. That’s why they won’t produce growth and jobs.
It looks to me like we’re still on the course of tax-tax-tax and spend-spend-spend. It’s a sorry mix for stocks and economic growth."

Every Senate Democrat voted to raise debt limit to $14.3 trillion
Let me repeat that — and let it be repeated loudly and often:
Every Senate Democrat voted to raise the debt limit to $14.3 trillion.
That’s $45,000 per American.
That would include the Blue Dog fiscal conservative Evan Bayh!

Baron Hill Proves He's Tone Deaf, Again
Baron expounds on the Prez's SOTU address in typical fashion. The HoosierPundit calls him out on it:
"How on earth could Baron Hill find Obama's divisive and partisan campaign speech to be have a tone that is "fittingly reflective and responsive"?
Oh wait, nevermind. We've seen Baron's idea of a reflective and responsive tone before:..."

Pelosi On Passing Health Care: "We'll Parachute In"
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on health care: “We’ll go through the gate. If the gate’s closed, we’ll go over the fence. If the fence is too high, we’ll pole vault in. If that doesn’t work, we’ll parachute in but we're going to get health care reform passed for the America people."
The Credibility Gap
Some of you may remember the term "credibility gap" from the '60s and '70s. Well, here is Sarah Palin's take on the current version. BTW, she IS more than just a pretty face!
A sample:
"In his address last night, the president once again revealed that there’s a fundamental disconnect between what the American people expect from their government, and what he wants to deliver. He’s still proposing failed top-down big government solutions to our problems. Instead of smaller, smarter government, he’s taken a government that was already too big and supersized it. "

Statist Quo
Everything changes except President Obama. His agenda doesn’t change. He has had no second thoughts about the wisdom of his health-care policies, or any of his policies; resistance is always and only a reason for redoubling. Also unchanging is the condescension with which he articulates his agenda...

The Republican Response to Obama's State of the Union
From Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell:
"In the past year, over three million Americans have lost their jobs, yet the Democratic Congress continues deficit spending, adding to the bureaucracy, and increasing the national debt on our children and grandchildren."
"Without reform, the excessive growth of government threatens our very liberty and prosperity."
"Top-down one-size fits all decision making should not replace the personal choices of free people in a free market, nor undermine the proper role of state and local governments in our system of federalism. As our Founders clearly stated, and we Governors understand, government closest to the people governs best."

A Self-Reverential State of the Union Address
From Peter Wehner at Politics Daily:
"What we are seeing play out on a very large stage, it seems, is a man of extraordinary self-regard having to deal with punishing political set-backs, with the fact that his high hopes have come crashing down around him. The nation has turned against his agenda. They are turning against his party. And they are tiring of him as well. This is something he cannot seem to process. So the president marches ahead, pretending up is down and east is west, embracing an agenda the country has rejected and that is doing terrible damage to his own party."

The Usual Straw Men, &c.
Victor Davis Hanson's take on the SOTU address.
"Cap and trade, statist health care, and an end to “don’t ask, don’t tell” for thee.
And for thou, Obama the tax cutter, Obama the gas-and-oil driller, Obama the budget freezer, Obama the anti-lobbyist reformer, Obama the bipartisan healer?"

Democrats to raise debt limit $1.9 trillion to record $14.3 trillion
And the beat goes on!
"Senate Democrats will vote to increase the nation’s debt limit to a record $14.3 trillion Thursday, one day after President Barack Obama emphasizes fiscal responsibility in his State of the Union address. Democrats increasingly worry that voting for more red ink will hurt them in November’s midterm elections. "

Group Email Alerts
For those who might be interested, some of the groups listed on the "Organizations" section in the right-hand column of this page have a sign up section to receive email alerts when there are activities coming up in the State. Two that I know of are the Tea Party Patriots group and the Freedom Group of America. We the People in Columbus has a calender on their site and they will put you on a mailing list. There are groups active in Columbus, Bloomington, North Vernon and Brown County, so this may be a good way to keep in touch regionally. If you are interested just follow those links.

Young challenges Sodrel to debates in GOP race.
From the Bloomington Herald-Times:
In their first public appearance together, Republican primary contenders Todd Young and Mike Sodrel addressed a standing-room-only crowd at an event hosted by the Indiana University College Republicans Monday night. Young, a Bloomington attorney and retired U.S. Marine captain, and former U.S. Rep. Sodrel are competing for the chance to unseat Rep. Baron Hill, D-Seymour, from his 9th U.S. Congressional District spot in the November general election.
While the two contenders did not meet in a debate setting Monday night, Young challenged Sodrel to weekly debate sessions, to continue until the May 4 primary. Sodrel accepted Young's challenge. Although the whens and wheres of these weekly debates have yet to be established, Young said he hopes they can begin next week. He also said he'd welcome other primary contenders to the debates. Columbus real estate investor Travis Hankins has also thrown his hat into the Republican primary ring, but did not attend Monday night's public meeting at the Undergraduate Business Building.
Young told the group he plans to run a campaign focused on the issues of fiscal responsibility and individual liberty. As the country's economy is driving off a cliff, current Democratic leadership is stepping on the gas pedal, Young said. He even took shots at previous Republican Congresses for fiscal irresponsibility, complete with massive budgets that weren't balanced. "We cannot return to the errant ways of the past. We cannot trade irresponsible Democrat leaders for Republican leaders that we don't have complete confidence in," Young said.
Sodrel told the audience that with his past experience in the congressional seat, he's ready to hit the ground running. He said that concentration should be focused on job growth, and that can't be accomplished by adding taxes, government regulation and debt - especially to small-business owners. If the government had instructed employers not to withhold taxes and give employees a full paycheck for 30 days, "That money would have gone instantly into the economy," Sodrel said. "Stimulus money is borrowed money that needs to be paid back," he continued.
Also giving their pitches to the group of young voters Monday night were Republican U.S. Senate hopefuls Richard Behney and Don Bates Jr. They are among the candidates seeking the GOP nomination for the seat held by Sen. Evan Bayh, a Democrat.

This story compels me to offer some comments as our We the People group continues to grow here locally. As we become more active, with rallies and the like, the urge to "do more" will have a tendency to increase. And , at some point, suggestions of civil disobedience or outright lawlessnes may be offered. We must resist these temptations. To maintain any credibility at all in our endeavors, we must remain within the law.

Bus trip to Washington planned for August
FYI. Brent Goben, of Seymour, is organizing a bus trip to Washington, D.C. on August 28, 2010. The occasion is Glenn Beck's rally that will take place that weekend at the Lincoln Memorial. I have the feeling it is going to turn into something huge. Seats are $120 per person. Call Brent at 522-8370 if you are interested, he can provide the details.

After you read this article in today's New York Times, go back and read "A Must Read" that I posted yesterday. Then ask yourselves if this is not the same tactic as the "Louisiana Purchase" or the "Cornhusker Kickback". This is the only way that progressives know how to operate. They think that by giving folks something that those folks will be beholden to them and keep them in power. Well I don't want things given to me I just want to KEEP more of what is mine already! I want LESS government not MORE! These types of programs only perpetuate the bureauacracy and their CONTROL!
This is part of their "recalibration" after last week's embarrassment, but it is only more of the same out of the same old playbook.

Move On to rally at Baron Hill's office in Bloomington, Tea party to counter!
This just in from the Bloomington Tea Party Patriots:
MoveOn.org is putting on a rally at Baron Hill's office in Bloomington tomorrow (Inside the Shower's Bldg, corner of 7th and Morton. Enter from the SW corner of the bldg. Other entrances are for other offices.). The message they want to present as quoted from their event webpage is, "Our message is that the best response to recent disappointing events is to advance a more, not less, progressive platform.".
We have been asked by one of your fellow patriots to stage a counter protest. This is an excellent idea. All of you that can be there at noon tomorrow, please plan to attend. Please allow the MoveOn folks to have their space and treat them with respect. If there is any conflict, we need to be the ones who demonstrate respect for others opinions. Don't give anyone reason to give us bad press about our behavior. Take the High Road like you always have in the past.

If any Tea Party/We the People folks care to participate it will be Tuesday January 26, 2010 at twelve noon in Bloomington at the location indicated in the above post.

Not just healthcare reform...
This graph from Heritage.org illustrates why we do not need government controlled healthcare reform. Anything that adds to the cost curve will only bankrupt us sooner. Why can't our Congresscritters understand that they need to tackle this problem incrementally throught cost/program reductions and not continue to add to existing programs or lump new ones right on top of the old ones. More entitlements and more taxes only get us to bankruptcy quicker!

A MUST READ
This is one of the best articles that I have read regarding the true intentions of Progressives!
Examples:
The middle class is the great enemy of collectivist politics, under any of its names: progressivism, communism, fascism, or “liberalism.” As far back as Karl Marx, the apostles of collectivism have understood that they must subjugate the middle class before they can claim total victory....
The upper class isn’t a big problem – they don’t have the votes to block a collectivist agenda in a democracy, and they generally find ways to maintain, or increase, their power and wealth under a total State....
The members of the lower class are generally seen as the clients of a collectivist movement, the recipients of the social benefits it promises. Their desperation and anger become fuel for the movement, providing both righteousness and voting power....
It’s clear that the middle class is the great enemy of collectivism. Only they have the combination of voting power, money, and economic self-interest to see the growth of government as undesirable, and provide effective resistance....
The Obamanuts are beginning a big push now to be the champions of the middle class by bashing the banks and financial institutions. Watch and beware. I no love for the Wall Streeters that were instrumental in slamming my 401k accounts, but the idea that the Dems are going to save us is a joke. They are in bed with the folks that put us in this mess - follow the money. Goldman Sachs gave more to Obama that anyone!!

Welcome Seymour/Jackson County bloggers! I decided that it was time to venture out into another one of the lanes on the information superhighway and put together this blog. It seems that some of the folks that I have been bombarding with emails about the ongoing political craziness don't appreciate me filling up their email boxes (rightfully so, I guess).
So I have established this blog as a way to communicate some of the wealth of information that I look at on a regular basis. This marvel called the Internet gives us a wonderful opportunity to communicate mass quantities of information so quickly and efficiently. And in today's political environment it is having a profound impact, as we witnessed in last week's election. In the days of the founding of this Republic, the citizens established Committees of Correspondence in order to keep informed of what was happening in each of the Colonies but they were hampered by the weeks and months that it took to get a written communique throughout the country. Today we can send such much more info in milliseconds and it is making a difference!
So that is my mission here - to provide info and correspondence to those who are concerned with the direction of our beloved Republic. I hope you join with me, I intend to leave the comments section open (for now), so let me know your thoughts. Hopefully you will find the things talked about here and the links provided to be of some benefit.

A good letter taking Congressman Hill to task. From a letter to the editor just south of us. Thanks to The HoosierPundit.
